It would be very nice if every time NPC loaded, it synchronized your “My Projects” list from the server to the local PC.  In addition to this having the “My Newforma Projects” within My Computer match what is in NPC would be awesome.

I’m not sure what you mean by synchronizing My Projects. The My Projects list is kept locally on your computer, not the server. Did you mean the project summary data or the list itself?

My Newforma Projects sounds the same, but is different: it is a collection of shortcuts to project folders that can be used when saving or opening. This is especially useful for saving data into project folders from other applications that Newforma doesn’t directly integrate with.

The My Newforma Projects is only updated when you edit the My Projects list and use the Save Changes button.

What I am trying to say is in addition to the “My projects”(in NPC) list syncing to the server, the “My Newforma Projects”(in My Computer) syncing to this area as well.  We have many users confused about all the extra project links because all they have to do is open a project to add a shortcut here.

At the very least projects should only be added to the My Newforma Projects after they have been added to the My Projects list.  Just opening a project once should do nothing.

Does this clarify the suggestion?

Actually, it’s such a great suggestion that we’ve already put it in Fifth Edition!

In Fourth Edition, project folder shortucts were added to My Newforma Projects whenever you opened a project. In Fifth Edition, these shortcuts will be synchronized to My Projects.

Since these are simply shortcuts to project folders, you can go ahead and delete any that you don’t want.

This is great!  Are they removed from the list if you remove the project from NPC?  If not its not a big deal. Deleting projects happens not as often as opening a new one!

Its just from my perspective (IT) I open a lot a projects, but only have 3 in My Projects, I have to routinely delete shortcuts from the My Newforma Projects.

Yes, in Fifth Edition we’ll remove shortcuts for projects you remove from My Projects.

What does it mean if this is not working. Meaning, I’m using 5e but my projects list updates in Outlook, but does not update in Explorer -see attached markup.

It looks to me like the projects that you have in the Outlook “Items to File” are indeed represented in the Newforma Projects folder in Explorer.

However, you do have some extra folder shortcuts in Explorer as well. These could have gotten there from your usage in Fourth Edition. You can simply delete the ones that you don’t want there (they are just shortcuts).

You can sync the list in Outlook using the “File Items” button. You can sync the list in Explorer using the ‘Edit My Projects’ dialog in Project Center.

The point is that we don’t delete any other shortcuts that are already there or that you add manually.

Thanks, that was it…I had old 4e shortcuts. Problem is, I deleted ALL the shortcuts from Explorer and now I have none -see attached image.

How do I get the 5e shortcuts back without creating them manually?

I have synched my Outlook folders.

In Newforma Project Center, open the Edit My Projects dialog from the Preferences button on the toolbar. Then simply click “Save Changes” and your shortcuts should be updated.

It has recently come to our attention for 6th edition that the projects shortcuts in the “My Newforma Projects” list may not synchronize in some cases. From recent testing, it appears that projects containing hyphens and possibly other special characters are at issue. We are continuing to explore this issue and hope to have a resolution for the next major release of Project Center.

As a workaround consider the following:
In Windows Explorer, manually delete the old project shortcuts:
  If there are several of these shortcuts, then in Windows Explorer, manually delete ALL of the project shortcuts.

Next, in Project Center, go to Preferences > Edit My Projects. Click the Save Changes button. This will resync the project shortcut list.
