The Outlook plugin for version 6 does not work with the 64bit version of Outlook 2010.

Does version 7 support MS Office 2010 in either 32bit or 64bit versions?

If not currently, when will that support become available?

Newforma does not have full support for the Add-In in Outlook 2010.  We expect to add that support in the next major release - Eighth Edition.  However, Seventh Edition does have additional features in the Newforma Project Center client that makes use of the Add-In optional.

Any timeframe on that (I know 7 just came out, so it won’t be for a while)?

Office 2010 last I heard was May 12 for business, sometime in June for retail.

I’m sure we’ll find out well enough what this means exactly with the release of 7th Ed but in light of my ignorance what these new features of 7th Ed brings forth, to hear Outlook 2010 is not fully supported until 8th Ed is not the most reassuring statement to read…

Agreed.  We’re testing the Office 2010 RTM, and had been planning on rolling the new version out this year (current standard is Office 2003).

Seventh Edition fully supports the Office 2010 file format, so we are compatible in that sense.  The only issue we are currently aware of is the Newforma Add-In toolbar gets buried in the “Add-Ins” ribbon, and so Newforma icons are not directly accesible in Outlook.  Instead you first have to select the “Add-Ins” icon to find Newforma options.

Ah yes, they intentionally ignored Ribbonizing Outlook for 2007, that’s right.
Latest RC allegedly removed the Office button and put the File menu back in… maybe they’ll cut the ribbon out altogether?!  smile

Haven’t started testing 7 yet, but that makes sense.

Thanks.

Here are a couple of screenshots of Outlook 2010 running the Newforma Add-In.  The first shot shows the main Outlook window, with no visible presence of Newforma.  We are hidden inside the Add-In tab.

The second shot shows what you see after selecting the Add-In tab.  The Newforma icons are now available for use.  As far as we know, Newforma Add-In runs correctly in this environment.  However, because of the timing of the Microsoft 2010 release, we were only able to perform limited testing against the RTM version of Outlook 2010 prior to the release of Newforma Seventh Edition.

In our next release we plan to officially support Outlook 2010.  In addition to more testing, we will move the Newforma Add-In toolbar so that it is accessible in the main Outlook window.

Another clarification: Newforma will not support the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010 in the near future.  All of our testing has been on the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010.
For additional information about the differences, here is a link to an article from Microsoft titled “Understanding 64-Bit Office”:

That’s fine.  My understanding is 64-bit Office 2010 is not recommended at all for mainstream.

For anyone who’s curious, I did just upgrade from 2007 to 2010 on my PC (I’m NOT touching the general staff’s though) and even though Add-Ins is selected in Customize the Ribbon, it still doesn’t show “Add Ins” in the Ribbon or any ‘sub selection’ of Add-Ins in the Customize the Ribbon.  Newforma is listed as an Active Application Add-In within View and Manage Microsoft Office Add-Ins.

While recognizing Office 2010 is not supported, was there anything in particular you did to get Newforma to show in the Add-Ins Ribbon?

The first step is to use Newforma Seventh Edition…if you’ve got that part right, we probably need to open a support ticket.
