How would you move a misfiled email from one project to another?

The best way to accomplish this is to use the Move task in the Project Email activity center and choose the other project.  This avoids reloading the item in Outlook just to save it back out again, giving Outlook the opportunity to introduce an error.  You can also move more than one Outlook Item at a time.

This operation will update the underlying summaries, so the email should appear in the other project’s Project Email activity immediately (after the a refresh), which does not happen if you move the file in Windows Explorer.

Hi Kong,

In case you run into this again, we have it well documented in our Help file.
Please the topic titled:”File Email Messages from Outlook to Project Center
After step 3, there is a note which states:
If you file an Outlook item to the wrong project and want to move it to a different project, select the item in the Project Email activity center, then click Explorer Tasks > Move from the Email Tasks panel to move it.

The point of Newforma for most people is that then they don’t have to pay attention to the folders that the emails go into. I just want to say “move this email to a different project” just as I can say “File in project” but this tool seems to be wanting me to figure out exactly into which folder it should go? Or am I missing something?

Hi,

You make a very good point regarding moving emails.  I will add this as a +Feature to the enhancement list.

Thanks for your input!

I noticed when trying to move emails from one folder to another using Explorer tasks - Move I get an error message stating the filename is too long.

These emails were originally filed from Outlook through Newforma and the filename was assigned by Newforma so why would it now give an error on a move?

I just want to say “move this email to a different project” just as I can say “File in project”...

Seconded.  The current requirement to have to find and select a specific email folder within a project makes the recommended email move process practically worthless.  I tell our users that their best bet is to:

1. Copy the misfiled email back into Outlook
2. Delete the misfiled email in Project Center
3. Re-file the email in the correct project in Project Center

I installed the update 6.1 which states that it would solve the error of the filename path being too long, however, it did not fix the problem.

When trying to move emails from one project to another due to misfiling, on certain emails I still get this error, however, when copying the same emails that gave the error they copy fine without an error.

Is this a settings issue or a Newforma code issue?
