Hi there,
The values are saved in the user’s HKCU settings on their workstation. The link to the procedure above shows the location of these values…
At this time we do not have any option for redirecting the app to select the profile data from another location.

That’s great Eric, thank you for looking into that.
Related to that, I’m assuming that the information for the My Projects list is stored on a file locally. Is the pointer to that file in the programing itself or is it stored in the registry? I am hoping that maybe it’s possible to move that file to a network drive and then tell Newforma where to find that file. That way, even though it would take some configuration, I could set it up for the network.
At this point, while waiting for the next release, I’m hoping there’s a work-around we can figure out.

HI Dagaz,
It looks that the ‘my projects’ list is on the spec list to be a database setting in the next version. This means that the ‘my projects’ list may be available to the user on other computers.
Version 7 should be an early 2010 release.
Hope this info is helpful.
Eric

Hi Dagaz,
Excellent exchange of info here
At this time, we don’t have any centralized storage area where a user can access - when they move from computer to computer. I’ll research this further to see if we will be changing this in the next major release…

Thank you Eric for the add.
I’ve read the documentation and I think it’s great for users getting a new computer where our techs set it up, but is there a way for users who move from computer to computer without a roaming profile?
We also have users who remote into a Terminal Server and it would be nice to be able to have their projects accessible.

hi,
We’ve just encountered this problem. Our users move from computer to computer and their projects are gone from My Projects.
I tried clicking on the link and it doesn’t seem to work. I get an error message.

Hi Drew,
I have set you up with an account to access the knowledgebase.
You will receive an email shortly with the logon info.
In the meantime, your point is well taken and we are looking to add this enhancement in a future release.
In the mean time, the process set forth in the tech tip will at least get you started.
Eric

Im sorry but is it possible you post that information on this web page as I do not have a login on that page.
It needs to be automatic, when you log onto a computer and start NPC it should check its default NPCS for that username and use all those settings.

Having information such as preferences and the “My Projects” list follow you from PC to PC would be VERY nice. I encourage the Newforma team to work on this.

Yes, you can remove projects from the My Projects list by selecting Preferences > Edit My Projects from the task panel on My Project Center. In the dialog, you can drag the project to the Unused Projects list.

Good suggestion.
In future versions, we are planning on putting user preferences like My Projects into a central database, making them available across different logins.
However, in Fifth Edition and earlier, you’ll have to recreate your My Projects if you change Windows logins or get a new computer.
Question for everyone: what does your organization do for migrating user preferences (desktop, application settings, etc) when setting up new computers or user identities? Do you use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard? USMT? Or some other migration tool?

I have a suggestion for Newforma. Is it possible to store the information for the My Projects for each user on a server, so if a user gets a new computer they will not have to setup the My Projects on the new computer?
