When filtering emails on the from: or to: fields, it would be really helpful if Newforma would recognize the sender / recipient’s email address as well as name.  This would be particularly useful in allowing to filter to all emails from/to a certain company (by typing the domain portion of the email address).  While we’re at it, why not also include company names in the data that is filtered against? 

(Note that I’m not suggesting adding the email address or company fields to the displayed columns—rather typing text in the “To:” filter ought to match names, company names and email addresses.)

  You can do this by choosing to display email addresses instead of the display names in the Project Email activity center. This is done by right clicking on the list header (where is says From, To, etc…) and choosing the option at the bottom titled “Show Email Addresses for Contacts.” Once this is done then filtering will work the way you described it above.

A bit awkward, but it gives the functionality I was looking for.  I still think it would be very useful, without any real drawbacks, for text typed in any of the name fields to filter against the name, the email address and perhaps the company name.  It makes the whole process smoother and easier.

Note that there appears to be a problem with the filtering implementation when you switch between ‘Display Text’ and ‘Email Addresses’.  When you switch between the two, the displayed emails do not automatically re-filter to reflect the new ‘Show ...’ choice: you have to delete the filter text and re-type it, otherwise Newforma continues to show the same list of emails found while filtering under the original ‘Show ...’ option.

(E.g. If I type ‘smith’ into the to: field, then change to ‘Show Email Addresses…’, the displayed emails do not change to messages with ‘smith’ in the email address.)

Hi Michael, Thanks for the feedback. I entered a defect for the filter not being applied right away after toggling the display mode. I’ll also make sure that your filtering suggestion gets recorded in our feature request database. I believe we squeezed that “feature” in at the end of a release cycle so we had to keep it simple at the time - it is definitely worth revisiting.
