suggestion:

after importing over 200 external project team members into a new project, it would be nice to be able to, after sorting by company, high-light a range of contacts, and then right-click to “Add to Group”.

Right now, if you high-light a number of contacts and use “Add Group”, it does nothing for you in terms of helping you quickly place contacts into Groups.

A new “Add to Group” option would result in all the contacts high-lighted to be checked, and ready for either a selection of an existing Group, or the option to create a new Group.

or, am i missing this functionality and it’s somewhere else?

Hi Gint,
Thank you for the suggestion. A way to do this is to select all the members and drag them into the group you’d like to assign them to. If they are already in a group, be sure to hold down the CTRL key while you drag otherwise they will be moved out of the current group.
Hope this helps,
Chad

Chad,
i tried that, but the list won’t scroll if your Group is outside of the visible list of selected members.

Yeah, that could be a problem but as long as you begin the drag when the group is visible you should be able to get it to work. If you use the column filters to filter out all of the other members (maybe by company) can you get a least one selected member visible at the same time the group is visible?

In any case, this is a good suggestion.
Thanks,
Chad

that’s just it, Chad, with over 200 members, the Group is NEVER visible… drag-n-drop - without the scroll - is not an option.  You really need to be able to select all members first, right-click, then add to group.

I’m not sure why the group is never visible. Is the Show Project Team Groups task available? If so, click on that task so that groups are displayed along with the members. Then just sort or filter the list so that the group is displayed and at least one selected member is displayed. (Groups are not filtered by the column filtering.)
See the attached screenshot for an example.
Thanks,
Chad

Chad, your screenshot is not reflective of real-world situations

the group is ‘never’ visible because, like in my case with over 200 members to group, (even with the External Team Members window stretched as far as it goes on this 17” flat panel) the group is not visible whenever the member is more than 33 lines away from the group… hence, for me, no drag-n-drop option exists.

an ability to select any and all members of a group first, then right-click, then ‘Add to Group’ is the way this thing sould work.

Got it - I was hoping you’d be able to specify a column filter on the company name or something that would bring at least one selected member closer to the group.

I’m curious how many project team members and groups you typically have on each project. Any how many contacts total?

Anyone else care to comment on this as well?

Having a better understanding of this will help us do a better job at performance and usability testing.
Thanks,
Chad

I know this doesn’t help with the problem right now, but in Fifth Edition we will support the ability to scroll the list when dragging, by hovering at the top or bottom of the list. This will also help in the My Projects editor when there are lots of projects.
