Windows 7 Testing

Hello,

I’m curious if anyone else is testing Windows 7 RC1 in their environment. I ask because, while it seems to work alright, I am running into an interesting error. Every time that I double-click to open an Action Item, Project Center (64-bit specifically) then crashes out. All other functions of Newforma seem to work alright.

Anyone had a similar experience yet?

Thanks!

We have been testing it on Windows 7 x64 and are also having issues with it closing out.  It appears that Google desktop search is the indexing system for Newforma and it does not play well with Windows 7 and keeps giving us “Bug Splat” screens.  Our testing as of now is not looking good for the compatibility of the two, hope this gets addressed prior to the release of 7!

NPC isn’t supported on Windows 7 yet.  We haven’t done any internal testing with it ourselves!  However, I’m pretty sure we will look at this for the next release.  NPC can query the search index of the Google desktop search client.  However, we don’t use that as our indexing system.  Our indexing is done on the NPC server.

Well that makes sense that the indexing is done on the server, completely forgot that, duh!  I am officially confused then because Google desktop is not installed on any of our machines and the “Bug Splat” that appears is for sure generated by Newforma??

If you’ll submit a BugSplat crash report and add your name to it, I’ll look into the problem.  Unfortunately, it’s likely we can’t do anything about the problem until the next release.

aretap: Have you had any luck trying any of the Windows 7 compatibility modes to get it to work?

The BugSplat report indicates that Windows code is crashing trying to draw scroll bars.  I’m afraid this doesn’t help us much by itself.  We will look at this for the next release!

Dave, Do you want me to send the Action Item crash one your way, or was this the same thing?

I found two BugSplat reports from you Scott, they were both the exact same problem.  I think we’ve got what we need for now.

I also am testing on Windows 7 x64. Today I recieved an RFI.  I opened the RFI (it was not assigned to me) and typed a suggestion.  I clicked “save changes.”  When I did newforma crashed and gave me the bug splat screen.  I opened Newforma back up and went to the same RFI.  I opened it up and the response that I had typed previously before the crash was saved and still in the suggestion box.  I then clicked on the cancel button and it crashed again.

i’m running windows 7 Enterprise RTM X64. I just updated the client & server to 6.1.1.3202. FIle items does not work in Outlook 2007/Exchange 2003 to file emails or add project folders. It will file mail in the background.

When do you plan to support Win 7? It hasn’t exactly been a secret…

We’ve noticed the same issue with action items crashing NPC on Win 7 Enterprise 32-bit. There is also an issue with the Outlook plugin, which is logged in the event log, but doesn’t seem to impact functionality as far as we have noticed thus far.

Other than that, NPC seems stable on Win 7.

I can confirm NPC crashing on Win7 64-bit when working with Action Items here.  Closing an action item seems to reliably trigger a crash.

I did not notice any problems with the Outlook “File Items” add-in and related folder synchronization.  That is seemingly working properly.
