Stephen V. Pangori, P.E., is an executive vice president of Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick, Inc. (http://www.aewinc.com), a 120-person civil engineering, surveying, and architectural firm with offices in Shelby Township, New Hudson, and Roseville, Mich. Steve’s bylined article in the November edition of CE News magazine will make interesting reading for all Newforma customers who are looking for ways to manage their businesses during an economic downturn.
In “Engineering the firm for a slow economy,” Steve describes how his firm finds funds that clients can use to purchase engineering services from Steve’s firm. Then, on the operations side, Steve describes three technologies AEW uses to provide high levels of client service without overloading existing personnel or adding new people.
Steve says his firm is being asked to provide more services without necessarily being paid for that work. Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick’s clients have had their budgets cut, and they need to outsource work they once performed in-house. Clients ask AEW to do the work gratis, knowing that if AEW doesn’t want to perform the added work, there are lots of other engineering firms in the area who would be happy to take it on.
Steve tells how AEW is using three software solutions - Deltek Vision, Info Tech FieldManager, and Newforma Project Center - to operate more productively.
