It would be very helpful if the Viewer included scroll bars to navigate around a document when the view is zoomed into something larger than the available display space.  The current implementation requires that the “Pan” tool be used to move around the document when zoomed in.  This is not the most intuitive interface and disrupts the overall markup workflow.

Users are used to having scroll bars to move around in a document that they are viewing.  Adding them to the Viewer would be very nice.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt, Can you describe what you mean about breaking up the “overall markup workflow”?  I’m not sure why selecting the pan button would be that much different than using the scroll bars.  Marge

The issue is that when you select the pan tool, the markup tool palette disappears and you have to click the “Back” link (or hit the “Escape” key) to get back to the markup tools.  This is an extra step that disrupts the markup flow, particularly on a large drawing or PDF where you need to move around the drawing a lot.  If scroll bars were available, that would hopefully make it so the markup tools stay active in the task panel while you were moving around the drawing.

Consider some of the following options (available in other programs that I use regularly) which will help improve navigation through large documents (with “large” meaning that you have to zoom in and out a lot to see the document details details) in the Viewer.

- Mouse scroll wheel = move current view up/down on the screen (do not change zoom level)
- Shift/Mouse scroll wheel = move current view left/right on the screen (do not change zoom level)
- Ctrl/Mouse scroll wheel = zoom in and out of the drawing
- Center mouse button = pan around drawing (press and hold to activate pan)

These navigation additions will also help elsewhere in the Viewer where the current behavior makes it impossible to move/zoom around a drawing without canceling the currently active command.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt, thanks for the suggestions. Just wanted to let you know that dragging with the middle mouse button selected should Pan in the Viewer. Is this not working for you?
Thanks,
Chad

Yes, the middle-button-to-pan does work.  I’ll make sure that our user group is aware of that as well.
Thanks,
Matt
