PDF creation issues from Markup sessions

We are experiencing some weird behavior at times when creating pdf files from completed markup sessions. In particular - we have a pdf file that is the basis / background of an 8 page markup. Everything looks fine in the markup, but when you create the pdf - 2 seperate pages (not consecutive) are rotated and become cropped in the pdf. These are catalog sheets that are 8.5 x 11 size.

A second issue I am having is that I have a markup where in the preview pane it indiates the check mark and date / signature as they were input on a stap that was printed on the scanned pdf document. Open the markup session, and these markup items are nowhere to be found.

Any body else experiencing issues like this, or have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dean

Hi Dean,
I haven’t seen either of these issues before. Would it be possible for you to send me the PDF files so I can try to reproduce the error here? (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address))
Thanks,
Chad

Chad,

The second issue now appears to be cleared up after we re-generated the markup from another station. I have attached 3 pdf’s to indicate what is happening with the first issue raised. The file C8-10 Spandrel Glass Data - original.pdf is the original pdf the markup is based on. The file C8-10 Spandrel Glass Data.pdf is the file saved from the viewer to pdf without any markups added, and the last file attached C8-10 Spandral Glass Data-x.pdf is the completed markup as it generstes to pdf format.

Any other questiosn - please let me know!

Thanks,
Dean

Hi Dean,
I reproduced this when I used the “Rasterize Output” option and will log a defect for this. I didn’t run into this problem if the “Rasterize output” option was not checked. I will post back if I find out any additional information about why this is happening.
Thanks for posting,
Chad

Thanks Chad!

What we have found is that if we don’t use the rasterize output - we sometimes lose markup lines/text behind the sheet image, and when the pdf is created they don’t show up - even though they are there in the markup file. We also have been opening pdf’s generated with the “rasterize” option in acrobat pro and reducing the file size before sending back out - just to reduce the resulting file size.

Thanks,
Dean

Hi Dean,
The last time I heard about this problem with the display order of the markups I thought it was reported to be happening in the Viewer, not in the created PDF. Do you have a PDF like this that you can share with me?
Thanks,
Chad

I have been experiencing some “quirky” problem when generating PDFs with NewForma Viewer, as well.  Different, however, from the post at the top of this thread.

I received a three-page document via e-mail in PDF format.  I marked-up the second page of the document using Viewer and created a PDF of the marked-up document.  When I opened the marked-up PDF with Adobe Reader, Viewer had replaced the second page with the first page, but kept my mark-ups on it.  Basically, it was a three-page PDF with two first pages.

Another quirk I’ve come across is filling out a PDF form.  When I filled out the form in Viewer, I made sure I placed “X” marks in appropriate boxes in the form.  I even zoomed in on the document to ensure placement.  When I used Viewer to create the marked-up PDF, the “X” marks ended up half outside the box.

Has anybody else run into similar output quirks?  Could it possibly be a compatibility issue between NewForma Viewer (5.0.2239.0) and Adobe Reader (8.1.2)?

Hi Chris, Thank you for bringing this to our attention and posting the sample files. We are currently looking into both of these issues.

Hi Chris, I have some additional information on the duplicated page problem. This is a defect in the code - thank you for reporting this to us. Until a fix is released, this problem can be avoided in two ways:

1. Always go back to page 1 before sending or creating a PDF from the Viewer.

-OR-

2. Don’t use the Rasterize Output checkbox when creating multi-page PDFs

Hope this helps,
Chad

Chad,
Are there any more updates to a fix for this problem?  This is a critical issue and needs to be resolved ASAP.  If Newforma is pushing this as a tool to do electronic review of project submittals, then we need the software to be reliable.  We’ve had a couple of instances where marked up drawings have been sent out of the office with markups showing up in the wrong location.  When we have issues like this, people stop using the software because they feel that they can’t trust it.  Please pass on any new information.

Hi Greg, This particular issue has been fixed in Project Center Sixth Edition. 6th edition will be available to you in the coming days.
Please let us know if you continue to have any problems creating PDFs.
Thanks,
Chad
