Are there any plans to add meeting notes entry/tracking functionality similar to what can be found In Prolog Manager? (http://www.meridiansystems.com/products/prolog/pm/projectmanagementtools.asp)

Meeting notes are a hot item with our management and we would like to have better tools to deal with them.  We end up seeing a lot of meeting notes from construction managers coming from Prolog Manager and there appears to be some useful features there, such as tracking of old notes and integration with action items.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

We now provide support for capturing meeting minutes, generating action items and linking to project files and other Newforma objects such as RFIs and Submittals in the 5th Edition Project Timeline activity center.  Allen Preger has written a Learn topic about this new functionality.  Please see the topic in the Learn area titled “New in Fifth Edition - Track Phone Calls, Meeting Minutes and other activities in Project Timeline”.

The workflow described in Allen’s post (http://www.newformant.com/index.php/site/postdetail/track_phone_calls_meeting_minutes_and_all_project_activities_in_project_tim/) is missing the piece that I was trying to describe in my original post.

Item 5 in his post describes the meeting notes Word document being attached as a supporting document.  What I’m looking for is a better way to get that Word document (which contains the actual meeting minutes) created in the first place, ideally in a way where we can create related action items all as part of the meeting note generation process.  From what I’ve seen as part of the Project Timeline in v5, I can’t accomplish this yet from within Project Center.

Thanks,
Matt

OK, thank you for the clarification. I will log this as a +Feature.

Thank you for the feedback!  Marge

As a late follow-up to this, there is another place to go to see what I’m asking for in this feature.  Prolog has meeting notes features that allow linking to action items, rolling forward open items to the next set of meeting notes, generating reports and Word doc output and a bunch of other things.

It would be great to see these types of features in Project Center as it matches our requirements much better than Prolog ever will.

Hi Matt,  I logged that with the feature request.  It is great to hear about how well Project Center is meeting your needs.  Thank you for your continued support!  Marge

As another data point and example of how we would like to see meeting notes generation functionality in the Project Center bag of tricks, a product called MeetingSense (http://www.meetingsense.com/) shows some good examples of how to integrate notes generation in with things like action items and decisions.

It would be great to see this type of feature in NPC.  Particularly with how the NPC templates can be used to format output data, a meeting notes activity center that could pull together a set of notes and pump them out through the templating engine for distribution to the external team, while at the same time feeding into our action items activity center, would be outstanding.

One of the biggest issues we face with actual notes generation is the double input we end up doing to first generate the notes and then parse through them to pull out the action items.  We are working on some interim steps to use the NPC Project Timeline to help with the action items generation and linking to meetings, but that method is currently unable to generate a set of notes that would be suitable for publication.

Hi Matt,  I appreciate the additional data point - I will take a look at the product to get a clearer undertstanding of the integration you are talking about and put some thought into how something like this could work in Newforma Project Center.  Thanks!  Marge
