Logging and Tracking ASI’s, WCPR’s, CCD’s and CO’s

Could defeintely use a logging and tracking tool for the following items:

1. Architect’s Supplmental Instructions
2. Work Changes Proposal Requests
3. Construction Change Directives
4. Change Orders

Before Newforma, we used to track these along with RFI’s and Submittals in a single Excel file, one spreadsheet per log. There are AIA documents assocaited with these, but these days, we scan and file originals and file with the project.

I know Action Items have been recommended to be used for tracking these items, but I would like to see a better, automated workflow for this process.

Thanks!
Advanced Search

Any chance we could see advanced Search functionality in a future release?

For example, it would be nice to indicate up front things like:
Terms to search for
Terms to exclude
Search attachments or not
Items to search or not

Thx-Sam

Use project number instead of name

When I set up our projects, I am hardly ever given the project name which we end up with. Sometimes, the project is just called by the city it is in until a suitable project name is found. Since Newforma uses the project name for .npr files and the name of the directory where it files lots of project stuff, renaming projects can be hard to do. How about giving your clients to the option to tie all this stuff to something more static, like the project NUMBER, instead of the project NAME?

Custom Fields within “Project Settings” > “Project Information”

I would like to suggest having custom fields to store data within the “Project Information” section of “Project Settings” and allow these custom fields to be polled from the “Notification Subject” “Insert Field” section of “Notifications/Forms”. This could be used for just about anything when combined with custom templates.

Control of date format

Can a feature be added to Newforma which would allow us to control the date format used? It would be nice if this could be controlled on a project by project basis. We currently allow two formats: US (MM-DD-YY) and International (YYYY-MM-DD). I am sure other offices use even different formats.

We would like the format selected to be consistent between published documents from Newforma (Such as Transmittals, RFI’s, Submittals) and saved e-mails from Outlook.

Thanks!

Newforma on the Mac

I would like to try and make the case for a greater level of Mac support from Newforma. Virtualization has proven an adequate, although not preferred, solution to using Project Center on a Mac. The ability in 4th Edition to file email using the File Items button has allowed me to file email from any Mac email client. The problem we are having is with the Outlook integration. For various reasons it is not practical for Mac users to use Outlook as their primary communication tool.

I propose a version of the Outlook toolbar for Microsoft Entourage. While this would not be a trivial engineering task, it would greatly improve the Newforma experience on the Mac. I believe there is already a demand for such a tool not only from within our company but many others. Newforma clients are generally progressive when it comes to information technology and Apple is now the most progressive platform out there. Are there other Newforma clients out there that agree with me?

Project folder/file creation

It would be nice if Project Center would give you the ability to copy in a directory structure with files at project creation time.

I know you can have it create the directory structure but we also have a need for files to be copied.

For example we have revit files that need to be copied into the correct folder. So if at project creation time it copied that directory from the “template location” to the active project directory that included the necessary files, that would automate the process and make our lives easier!

What do you think?

Re-ordering of Description of Contents

It would be nice to be able to re-order the Description of Content list.

Example is when I want to Create a similar Transmittal I want to add additional content items but I want them to be on the top of the list showing that these are newer items.

Make sense?

Submittal Review Complete Notification

Our Submittal Review work flow process involves one person (gatekeeper) logging all incoming and outgoing submittals. Newforma accommodates this nicely via Info Exchange if the reviewer is an outside consultant. If the review is done in-house via email then Newforma lacks a way of notifying the gatekeeper that a review is complete aside from that person having to constantly check the status. All the information to generate an email is collected in the Record a Submittal Reviewers Response form but since the Next Action box is not checked by the reviewer in our work flow process no notifications are generated. Since the concept of a submittal gatekeeper is not uncommon our suggestion is to add a Review Complete action to the Next Action drop down in the Record a Submittal Reviewers Response form that will automatically notify the gatekeeper that a forwarded review is complete.

Update Requirements

Can you update the recommended machine requirements for the Project center client? We have it running on all kinds of machines and the pentium 4 machines with 2 gigs of ram just don’t cut it. The user has to wait a long time to get anything done compared to the dual core machines with the same ram.

Yes it will run on a pentium 4 machine but on a real world machine with office and other apps such as revit or autocad you really should up the requirements.

I know this is subjective but it is the reality.
