A Newforma Project Center Server maintains a search index that allows fast searching of project files. This index is a custom database optimized for fast text searches. The index is constantly updated by the Newforma Project Center Server which monitors the project files that exist within each Newforma project.
The amount of project data that can be supported varies based upon the number and size of project files, the density of text in the project files, and the processing power available in the Newforma Project Center Server. Many customers are successful indexing one or two terabytes of project data with a single server. We have one customer that has been able to index five terabytes of data with a single server, although this number should not be considered typical. Newforma Project Center constantly monitors the size of the search index, and will report when internal limits are getting near maximum size. Configuration changes may be possible that allow additional data to be searched (for example by adding additional processing power, or additional search catalogs). While the majority of our customers only have a single Newforma Project Center Server per office location, there are some customers that require a second server to support the amount of project data at one site.
