CAN Do award, Action Items activity center for lean design, part two: BNIM
Like Boulder Associates Architects, the other firm winning a CAN Do award for its innovative use of the Action Items activity center, BNIM applied the Newforma Project Center technology in pursuit of lean design.
BNIM was inspired by lean principles to minimize costs and maximize value. In particular, BNIM strove to streamline is invoicing process. The Action Items activity center played a role in achieving this goal.
The old BNIM invoicing process called for printing preliminary bills to be reviewed by project managers. The process consumed paper, toner and filing space. Worse, it demanded that accounting personnel spend time following up with project managers. And worst, some invoices took as long as six weeks to be reviewed, revised and approved, substantially delaying billing!
In its new, paperless billing process, BNIM accounting personnel now deliver invoices to project managers attached to emails that are tracked by the Action Items activity center. The Newforma software keeps track of who’s received what, when, and sends automated reminders if PMs are slow to respond.
Project managers use Newforma Markup functions to mark up invoices and return them to the accounting team. They in turn incorporate the changes and invoice clients.
The Action Items activity center improves accountability and slashes turnaround times to as little as one day!
We should add that the BNIM invoicing process takes advantage of integration between Newforma Project Center and Deltek Vision business information management software.
For its innovative use of Newforma Project Center, we’re happy to award this Creative Adoption of Newforma “CAN Do” award. Congratulations, BNIM!
